Putting Pantyhose on Your Shop Vacuum, Say What?
Here's a quick, easy way to find small parts that were dropped or lost
Welcome to Joe Shows How! In this week’s video, I’ll show you why it’s a good idea to keep some pantyhose in your workshop. I know it sounds strange, but you’ll thank me next time you accidentally drop a hex-nut, screw or other small piece of hardware, and it bounces out of sight and into some dark, dusty corner. Here’s the tip: Get an old pair of nylon pantyhose and cut off the lower leg section. (If you don’t have an old pair of pantyhose, buy some trouser socks, which are knee socks made of nylon or spandex.)
Slip the pantyhose leg over the wand of your shop vacuum, hold it in place and then start vacuuming the area where you dropped the part. As the part get sucked up into the vacuum wand, it will get trapped in the pantyhose, making it easy to retrieve without digging through the dusty vacuum canister. Note that this technique can also be used on a household vacuum to find dropped jewelry, such as earrings and earring backs.
Hope you enjoy this video, and be sure to watch until the end for a bonus tip on using fishing tackle bins to store and organize small parts. Thanks for supporting Joe Shows How!
